On the occasion of the 20th Biennale of Sydney, The Future Is Already Here - It's Just Not Evenly DistributedLee Mingwei will recreate Pablo Picasso's 1937 mural-sized painting Guernica completely in locally-sourced black, white, and yellow sand. In a one-time performance on April 23, Mingwei will first invite members of the audience to walk on the piece, and then sweep the image away using bamboo brooms. This "simultaneous act of obliteration and re-creation results in an altogether new work, where formerly precise lines are reimagined as intuitive abstract forms."
