ZONAMACO 2024

ZONAMACO 2024
Booth B114

February 7 - 11, 2024

Featuring: Margarita Cabrera, James Clar, Aiko Tezuka

For the 2024 edition of ZONAMACO, Jane Lombard Gallery will show a  group presentation of works by Margarita Cabrera, James Clar, and Aiko Tezuka. Exploring materiality, this presentation collectively considers perceptions of identity, reality, and power. Cabrera investigates borders between countries, focusing on power dynamics and the migrant experience. Transforming fabric into discarded appliances, vehicles, and desert flora and fauna, Cabrera’s soft sculptures highlight multilateral viewpoints of struggle and achievement. Clar’s practice explores the narrative potential of light and technology, sculpting with LED lights to create dreamlike geometric forms that tamper with perception. His manipulation of media seeks to upend the visual experience by confusing our senses, transforming the world around us, and blurring the boundaries of the tangible and the metaphysical. Tezuka, drawing from Eastern and Western textile traditions, unravels and re-weaves to form new shapes and patterns. Emphasizing fabric’s constant state of evolution, Tezuka examines the cultural and economic symbolism embedded in each decorative detail. Together, the works manipulate alternative materials to investigate conventions of reality.
