Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens examine the statistical forms and epistemic assumptions that govern science communication. Their collaborative practice plunges the two Quebec-based artists into a wide range of scientific subfields, which serve as points of departure for their sculptures, videos, and installations.
Tales from the Terranean examines how abstract representation gives form to new models that quantify nature’s value. Spindly curves, candy-colored blocks, and bright quarter-pies are immediately recognizable as having a common source in the data graphics of our media-saturated culture. Without any captions or labeling, these models suggest that data visualization has become an artistic form in itself.
