Sam Dienst
Exploring tenants of materialism, Sam Dienst’s vibrant tapestries blur the boundaries between object and self. Taking seemingly mundane and disparate items, Dienst weaves together a
narrative of daily rituals, perceptions, and experiences. Bodies, household objects, food, and nature fuse, becoming a quasi self portrait. Playing with scale and proximity, her compositions
flatten and entangle objects exemplifying the interdependent relationship often formed with material possessions. Defining existence through purchasing power, Dienst satirically celebrates and challenges the status quo of commercial culture.
Sam Dienst received her MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has exhibited at the Museum of Museums, Seattle, WA; Janice Charach Gallery, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Martha’s Gallery, Austin, TX; and Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit, Detroit, MI; among others.
