Ilke Cop
Ilke Cop (BE, 1988) lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. In 2010, she graduated with a Master’s degree in Art History and the core of her ideas and vision began to take root. Until 2021, she ran an acclaimed and sustainable fashion brand (ILKECOP).
In late 2018, she began to explore her art practice. She is a founding member of the feminist womxn’s collective Hyster-x. Her practice includes painting, drawing, sculpture and installation works. She questions and addresses personal, cultural and historical questions surrounding the position of women, in particular how they have been depicted so far by art history and literature, the role of women as artists and the way in which women's voices are represented. In June ‘24 she had her second solo exhibition at Tatjana Pieters Gallery. Last summer, Cop made a remarkable appearance with a sculptural installation made for Sint-Denijs City, a Belgian Biennial for contemporary art. In 2024, her work is selected for the Biennial of Painting at Mudel museum, Deinze (BE) and the Crystal Ship festival in Oostende (BE). In January 2024, she was awarded the Gaver prize, one of the most important art prizes in Belgium. In 2025 she will show for the first time with NYC gallery Jane Lombard. Her work is part of private collections across Europe & the USA.
