Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens

Biography

Canadian artists Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens work chiefly in sculpture, video, and installation. Their collaborative practice combines a concise approach to the form and construction of the art object with a desire to make ideas visible. For several years, they have examined the history of science and other forms of knowledge, including the language of economy, the magic of statistics, the capacity for models to impact the future, the aesthetics of data visualization, and the design of laboratory experiments. Their work tends toward the re-sensualisation of abstractions through objects and actions. They live and work in Durham-Sud, Canada.

Ibghy & Lemmens’ recent solo exhibitions include Centre d’Art de Kamouraska, Quebec (2023), Fondation Guido Molinari, Montreal (2022), the Grantham Foundation for the Arts and the Environment, Saint-Edmond-de-Grantham, Quebec (2020-21), Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita, USA (2021), Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Omaha, USA (2019), International Studio & Curatorial Program, New York (2016), Esker Foundation, Calgary (2016), YYZ, Toronto International Airport (2016), VOX, Montreal (2014), and Monte Vista Projects, Los Angeles (2012). They have participated in group exhibitions including the Museum of Civilization, Quebec City, in collaboration with the Barbican Centre, London (2023), Ludwig Museum, Budapest, Hungary (2022), Galerie de l’UQAM, Montreal (2019), Fiskars Biennale, Finland (2019), Columbus Museum, Ohio, USA (2018), ArtCenter South Florida, Miami, USA (2018), Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal, Quebec (2018), OFF-Biennale, Budapest (2017), Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador (2016), Istanbul Biennial (2015), La Biennale de Montréal (2014), Manif d’art: Quebec City Biennial (2014), La Filature - Scene Nationale, La Kunsthalle, Mulhouse, France (2013), Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Høvikodden, Norway (2013) and Sharjah Biennial, UAE (2011).
